There was a locally-available A50/2.8 macro in excellent condition for $180. A quick shot for these results:
With the kit 18-55 zoom http://brendemuehl.net/images/macro/part1z.jpg With the A50/2.8 macro http://brendemuehl.net/images/macro/part1m.jpg It's a simple item shot, but what stood out to me was two things: 1) Down in front of the item are a couple little black spots. They are much more distinct in the macro shot, as they should be. 2) The kit lens shot has a green color cast. I've been wondering about the results this week and was blaming my Samsung display as things did not look quite so greenish on the laptop. But there was still a difference. This proves to me that the issue is the lens and not the screen or the lighting. I went and got this without asking. If the boss balks, then I'll keep it. It's such a nice lens.
