I've been in a bit of a photographic funk lately, not really excited
about anything I've gotten. I tried to shake it off by going for a
walk around Pacific Ave in Santa Cruz after dinner, then a quick
drive down to the wharf. While there isn't anything particularly
outstanding, I think I got a few entertaining shots. It was nice
weather, so the hippies were out in force. What's the collective
noun for hippies? Tribe? Deadshow? Anyways, they actually had
someone pretty decent on the trumpet, so their impromptu bardic
circle on the sidewalk actually sounded better than most.

I'd love to see what Knarf would do given a K-5 and a couple hours on
a warm night in Santa Cruz.
Hippies *is* the collective (i.e. plural) noun. "Hippie" when there's
only one of them.
Although, technically it should always be preceded with the modifier OLD.
You don't really see REAL hippies anymore. The ones who are left kind of
blended into the background - camouflaged as it were. Most of us
eventually got married, got jobs, bought houses (joined the Army believe
it or not) - maybe had a lot of kids ... and too many started voting
republican.
But if you want to find REAL hippies, look for old farts hanging around
together to the tune of John Prine, Tom Paxton, Phil Ochs ...
What you have just looked like a bunch of kids hanging out - something
that started long before hippiedom and will still be around long after
the last of us is gone.
"ZA Y ART" would be the best, were it framed a little better.
