I hear the Aussies keep baseball bats in theirs to knock the spiders
off the underside of the seat before sitting down.

I'm sure you mean cricket bat......

Actually, no, I meant baseball bat. When the person I heard this from
said baseball bat, someone asked if she meant cricket bat, and she
said, it was a baseball bat. Not surprising though, baseball bats make
better clubs than cricket bats.

The problem is that most Australians would have trouble finding a
baseball bat.

I was a bit surprised too. I was just told the story of someone seeing a baseball bat in an outhouse, asking what it was for (not what you expect to see) and was then shown and explained it's use.

Actually, a better option is a rolled up copy of the Sydney Daily
Telegraph. It then has the added advantage of being useful after
dispatching the spider (about the only things it's good for - there's
certainly no news in it).

I suspect that any sort of large wooden stick, or axe handle would be better for dislodging spiders, as to the other purpose, I expect other things are better, though less satisfying in some ways, at that.
