Hum okay Dan I suppose I will keep that in mind and know to use it in manual
mode on those occasions it decides to act up.

My sample of that lens has always been a bit quirky and unpredictable in
that regard.  Sometimes it just will not auto focus on what i have in my
viewfinder, and I have to put it on manual.  That is usually OK, but my
eyesight has degraded to the point where it is no longer as easy for me to
manually focus in difficult conditions as it was a few years ago.
