Their scanning prices are err how shall I say this, outrageous. I'm
doing this for a client, and I'm trying to save them some money. If
these were my images I'd do my own scanning.

You mayo may not relish this idea, but I'd suggest giving your local
photo lab a try, if one still exists. I'm sure they could use the
business to ketchup on their dwindling finances.
