A mate and I used to ask for a "nuclear hot" vindaloo at our Friday Indian
lunches. Those were the days. When I went to four days a week I started going
running on the Friday afternoon and spicy food tended to cause trouble with
that, so I ended up going mild. I've lost my tolerance to it so "medium" is
about my limit at the moment.

It's just as well I've given that up as I know a couple of people who cannot
eat even mildly spicy food anymore after going a bit too far with it in their
youth.

I still grow chillies though, despite our climate being a bit borderline for
it. I've just harvested the last of my small crop of jalapeƱos. I make a
chilli relish from a recipe we adapted from a tomato relish one. Given a few
months to age it tastes divine and isn't too hot. Perfect accompaniment to
corned beef.
