I would think that the 2x converter would eliminate the problem, but at the cost of a precious stop of light. It would be interesting to experiment with other things, like straight extension tubes and see if even a slight movement away from the body reduces or eliminates the problem.
I doubt that you will see the problem with most images you take with it.
