I'm warming up to it.. but at first didn't like it at all..
There are a couple more photos in that gallery from the Hi-line , btw..
The design eliment that doesn't work is the way the concrete mimics
the rails
in a dangerous ankle-breaking potential fashion.
ah, those were the days ... early morning returning from my small-town
paper route along the tracks with my faithful dog Frances at my side;
some days i'd find the best pace to walk tie by tie, others i'd see how
far i could walk on a rail ...
i've done that kind of wlking as well... once you see the hi-line and
walk it you will better see the danger -- much much worse than
a real railroad walk... well... you'll see - hard to explain --
And then there are the tourists ;-)
yeah, my brother (a brooklynite) and sister (manhattanite) have both
raved about the Hi-line and yet both dissuaded me from visiting it on a
recent warm weekend day when it was likely to be packed with people
Oudolf did the new design for Battery Park as well, which i'd love to
see, but both will wait until a more relaxed trip (flash visit to meet
my nephew and new niece, then short visit to the Japanese exhibits in
DC, 10 days ago)
early morning weekday is nice... but still crowded during week around
lunch, for sure.
