I'm a sucker for procedures and checklists... should have joined the military. I even wrote a checklist for myself of what to do on the morning of my wedding day. I also carried backups for everything, none of which I needed except for peace of mind. Anyway, I just realised that a major reason why I never remove the card is because I never manage to fill it up, so I never need to swap cards :) Transferring via the USB cable is fast enough so I didn't bother buying an external reader.
