of the "meme" as a building block of cultural information, performing a
function in the evolution of culture similar to what genes do in biology.
In the "real world" it's also the name for something stupid that people
do so they can take photos of themselves doing it & then post them on
Facebook.
Lolcats & "I Can Has Cheezburger?" are examples of memes.
The Darwin Awards are a meme.
