Ultra wide is the biggest deficiency. You can get 10mm rectilinear lenses for 24x36mm formats, the equivalent in APS-C would ~6.7mm. Which would seem to be extremely difficult to engineer, at a reasonable price with reasonable quality.

Boris has a good point. The current crop (sorry) of aps-c cameras are
excellent for a very broad range of uses. Pentax in particular has a
decent camera body and has designed an excellent selection of lenses
for the sensor size.

One can always find a niche or two that isn't well covered, or
something that could be improved. But if the camera industry stopped
new development today, there is little that I would want and probably
nothing I would need.

That being said, I'm sure I'll buy more stuff, just because it's fun.

Not tricky at all. If you are photographing for the web, in good
light, they aren't any better, and because of their size, possibly
worse. Likewise if you need image stabilization on a lens that is
faster than f/2.8.

If you need to use a lens that isn't made for Pentax, but is made
for Nikon or Canon, then they are infinitely better. If you need an
f/1.4 lens with the FOV of 50mm on 24x36 or the FOV of 30mm on APS,
they are better.

If you are printing photos at a size where the increased resolution
makes a difference, then they are better.

You cannot accurately say that one camera is better than another
camera. You can only say that it is better for certain things. If
one camera does something that another camera doesn't, then it is
infinitely better for that task. Jostein has both a K-5 and a 645D.
In theory the 645D is a better camera, but he still uses the K-5. As
a matter of fact, I'd wager he shoots more frames with the K-5 than
with the 645D, because there are many things the K-5 is better at.
Likewise, look at Walt and his K-x and K100D.

I agree with your every word, Larry. It is just that K-5 or K-7 or K20D
or K10 or *istD are pretty capable cameras and can be used for great
many photographic applications. I am not dismissing full frame cameras,
but cropped cameras are very capable and as times goes by they become
more capable.

I use the AF lockout all the time. I prefocus with half a shutter
press, then hit AF so I get instant shutter response. You are right,
it would be better in many cases if it disengaged the screwdrive.

True. I think that can be done in firmware, but for some reason they cannot
be bothered...

Don't lose heart! They might want to cut it out, and they'll want to avoid a
lengthily search.
