Can't speak for anyone else but I'm not miffed. I'm an American - North
American, that is.

Yes, in many ways our culture is distinct from our southern neighbours (like
how we spell "neighbours" for instance) but we share more culturally with the
US than anywhere else (and yes, that includes Quebec, the most culturally
distinct part of our country).

In North America the cultural lines tend to run north and south; a Nova Scotian
has more in common with someone from Maine than with a wheat farmer from
Saskatchewan. That wheat farmer has more in common with someone from the
Breadbasket of the US than with someone who lives on Vancouver Island. You get
the picture.

Give us guns and make us pay for doctor visits and there ain't so many
differences. We all have Jersey Shore and Lady Gaga.

Okay I exaggerate just a bit: There is immigration and the social safety net,
but our current government in Ottawa is doing their best to "harmonize" those...

:-)

cheers,
frank

Since they're Canadians, I expect that they're slightly miffed that
someone would call them Americans, though in the politest way possible.

Don't lose heart! They might want to cut it out, and they'll want to avoid a
lengthily search.
