Ann,
I don't have either of the two programs, so I cannot test what I
am suggesting below.
I suspect that ACDSEE might be
1) looking at JPEG previews as opposed to the raw files
Yes I think so...
or
2) might not be understanding some option from the PEF files.
Also, note that if you are changing the files in Elements, that change
is most likely written in the sidecar file. ACDSEE might not be able to read
those.
It's only BEFORE I edit files in photoshop that they are too dark when
looking at them in ACDSEE. Once I've done the work in Elements those
files look fine in the ACDSEE thing.
As an alternative, - if all you need is to preview the PEF files, - I'd
suggest Faststone Image Viewer - it's free and very nice for simple
things like that (as well as batch file renaming):

I might well try that - thanks

I've been dealing with this for a while but I can't believe there
isn't a
way to fix it.
When I open raw PEF files in Elements the exposures hardly have to be
adjusted - if at all.
However, I can't preview the PEF's in the open window in Elements
SOOOO
I use ACDSEE for Pentax 3.0 - when I do that I can see the thumbnails
and
browse and slide show and all that BUT the images are always too dark
-
anywhere from 3 to 5 stops under in camera terms.
I don't want to tamper with the raw files in ACDSEE - I've fished
around for
a viewing option of brightening but I cant find it..
I'm on windoze xp (thought that shouldnt matter) does anyone know how
to
adjust ACDSEE without actually editing the images?
Thanks guys,
ann
