For me, it depends on who the photo is for. The "problem" I see with the second is that the vertical format + taller figure + taller hat make the woman on the right much more prominent. But the nice diagonal brings the eyes back to the woman on our left. So there is a bit of tension there, 'tis not clear who the subject is. And it is hard to look at both at once. With the horizontal looser crop, the diagonal and the height difference are muted and it is possible to see it as a photo of two friends. Yes, more of a "snapshot" that way, as others have said. So maybe a tighter crop that doesn't go quite so far? Or a smallish print of the first one so that one sees the pair at normal viewing distance, not one or another of the women.
