So, I took the K20D with the Promaster 70-300 out this morning to work
on my manual focusing skills, and happened to catch this out of the
corner of my eye -- thinking it was a hummingbird. The thing is pretty
damned sizable.

If it's some kind of bee, it's not like any I've ever seen before. But,
