I'm not sure I understand exactly what you mean by "muddy".
I must admit, though, that I've never managed to get any scans from B&W
negatives that aren't somewhat flat and dull-looking at first. I thought
I did a reasonable processing job on these, but perhaps I'm a poor judge
of what looks right.
