Thanks all, for the comments so far. Don, the Construction Zone at Dusk is an example of an image that I probably would never have taken with the K-x (or now, my K-5). With the neck strap wrapped around my right arm and my left hand on the steering wheel, I just pointed it out my open window and let fly as I turned a corner and headed up the street. I was watching my driving, not the camera but it is so small that it is pretty easy to feel where you are pointing it. I didn't really expect a lot, but I guess that one kind of grabbed me too, which is why I chose it as one to spend a little time on. All I did with it in Snapseed was crop out a bit of my car hood on the bottom and play with the white balance a bit.
Iron Road Runnin' makes use of Snapseed's cool little tilt/shift module to provide a thin strip of DOF, as thick as you want an oriented as you like. Godfrey, I was trying a little bit of everything in Snapseed with on "Alongside the Tracks". Obviously, there is the frame effect (which I think can be overdone but I think suits some images well). There is also a texture, dialed down somewhat from the default. I believe I also played with some film effects to give me a color shift that I thought went well with the subject matter. And then I used two control points to do some selective brightening (most obviously the tracks in the bottom center) and hopefully more subtly the big shadow on the 2nd bin from the left. I would never have thought that the iPad interface could be so utilized for photo editing. Snapseed is perhaps the biggest software bargain in the world, at $4.99 for the iPad/iPhone (Android version "coming soon") http://www.snapseed.com/home/mobile/features/ Snapseed for Windows is a whopping $19.95 https://shop.niksoftware.com/snapseed/index A video of Snapseed Desktop at work: http://www.niksoftware.com/learnmore/usa/index.php/webinars/archives/creating-artistic-images-using-snapseed-for-the-desktop-with-tony-sweet/0/0/0/0/0 They also make a desktop version for Windows/Mac -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List [email protected] http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
