A $3000 full frame P&S? Seems a bit pricy. But it is Sony and they do
want to compete /everywhere/. Even if there seems to be no point, or
competition for that matter.
Why should I be excited about the K5II, I more or less expected it, and
threw it out as a prediction some time ago. It kind of follows
Pentax's usual pattern, except that instead of improving IQ in one
generation then the support hardware, (AF, storage, etc.), the next,
they've done both, but that's more or less a consequence of having a
real budget now that Ricoh is funding them.
It's hard to get excited about something you fully anticipated. Besides,
even though I expect that Pentax will eek out a bit more quality from
the new sensor than Sony and Nikon, it will still be a tradeoff of
higher resolution, (more megapixels), vs Digital noise at higher ISOs.
Sony's products that use this chip family already show this.
Better auto focus will be very important to some but isn't that
important to me as most of my lenses are still manual focus. The
viewfinder is already good enough in the K20D, not that it couldn't be
better, but it beats the hell out of most of the others I've seen in DSLRs.

Oh, I get it, we're all too busy discussing the exciting K-5 II and
its new/better/improved 16MP sensor and AF engine:

Don't lose heart, they might want to cut it out, and they'll want to avoid a
