For some reason, it almost looks a little softer in black and white.

Thanks for the feedback on this. That's the whole frame of the image, so
there isn't much I can do at this point for that.

I may agree with you on that being a better shot. I just tried a square crop,
and it seems a bit claustrophobic for me.
4x5 might work.
