This will not come as a surprise to people who frequently make international 
telephone calls.
Every now and then you end up with exactly that situation (caused either by the 
person you are calling using a speakerphone that doesn't get completely 
cancelled out, or sometimes simply by crosstalk on the phone lines). A 
round-trip call via satellite each way means you hear your own voice almost 
half a second after you speak.
