That's kind of my question.  Are you saying that you notice it when printing 
over a certain size?

I sure noticed the difference between tri-x and pan-x, but haven't really 
noticed the difference in sensor resolutions.

It kind of depends on the subject, and the viewing distance. Some images look just fine at lower resolutions even viewed close up, some look awful. If the subject depends on a lot of detail then you're going to want more resolution. There's more to it than that, but tis a good rule of thumb.
