Trouble is even in England here it is hard to get a porter or a dark
mild (non of this mamby pamby London mild .. Looks like gn*ts p**s and
is!)

Porter in Porterhouses? Hmmmm probably more like where the name
porterhouse when applied to steak came from. I'm from the UK and have
never heard of this one so it's certainly dead now, although it might be
the origin. Porter is an almost extinct drink in the UK now. Some small
breweries still do it, but it's very much a specialty ale. I happen to
quite like it but prefer a real stout (hand pulled, so not Guinness or
Murphy's thank you!) or a dark mild myself.
