Since Mark bought this lens from me, I should reply. I had never photographed through this particular lens, so I apologize for not noticing it/mentioning it. I was under the impression that the radioactive element was only used in the Super Tak versions of this, but apparently I was mistaken.
Regarding UV light treatments... IKEA makes a cheap chinese LED task light that costs $10 and is supposed to work very quickly on this problem. (Since UV is bad for you, I'm not sure what this says about the advisability of using such lamps for their *intended* purpose.) One specifically mentioned is the Jansjo LED task lamp from IKEA : \ A halogen worklamp would probably work well also, if you removed the glass UV filter off the front first.
