UV is bad for you, but UV is also good for you...

Since Mark bought this lens from me, I should reply.
I had never photographed through this particular lens, so I apologize
for not noticing it/mentioning it. I was under the impression that the
radioactive element was only used in the Super Tak versions of this,
but apparently I was mistaken.

Regarding UV light treatments...
IKEA makes a cheap chinese LED task light that costs $10 and is
supposed to work very quickly on this problem. (Since UV is bad for
you, I'm not sure what this says about the advisability of using such
lamps for their *intended* purpose.) One specifically mentioned is the
Jansjo LED task lamp from IKEA

A halogen worklamp would probably work well also, if you removed the
glass UV filter off the front first.

I've got an SMC-Takumar 35mm f/2 with the radioactive element that's
severely yellowed. Has anyone done the UV light treatment to clear
this up (usually with the more common 50/1.4)?
Sunlight probably isn't an option for me here in Boston with winter
coming on. I'm wondering what type of UV light might work best (or at
all).

Don't lose heart, they might want to cut it out, and they'll want to avoid a
lengthly search.
