like most new stuff on the internet it starts out from the premise that
everything should be 'monetized'. This is in stark contrast to the early
days, and the philosophy behind lists like the PDML which have been around a
long time, that the internet is about open and free communication; free as
in beer and free as in speech. It's the difference between being collegiate,
and being corporate.
