This is an interesting point. Most of us would agree. The only two
occasions I can think of where the timings and style of presentation
would warrant a hands-off approach would be A) with the music playing a
crucial part in the presentation - to heighten emotion perhaps, and B)
where there are other elements in the sound track like voice over or
perhaps interview clips.

The BBC sometimes does these sorts of slide shows but they use radio
clips as well and the whole thing tells a story.
