Looking it seems doing a blurb book is cheaper than it once was.
So just curious, because I've been thinking about it (Derby got me
thinking)... and wondering who has done it. Don't think I'd do it now, but I
could
bear it in mind for my shooting this coming year and then later compile
from several years. Or do that several years in a row, think about a book
while shooting.
Have you ever done a photo book of your own photos?
Yup - but I bet you knew that already, Marnie
NOt counting SIGN LANGUAGE Citadel press, 1992)
These:

All by LULU - see answer to next q..
Are you thinking about it?
Thinking about redoing SIGN LANGUAGE all the time - in Blurb, but I'm
lazy. Also my French stuff, or western stuff, or critters or bw cats,
but as it isn't instant action on possible sales I can't justify the
time to myself.

If you have done it, do you just give it to friends or do you sell it too?
Did a calendar in 1984 to give to people. All the books and calendars
have been intended to sell. But if I were not close to being indigent I
would just do them and give them for presents.
If you have sold, how many copies and/or how do you promote it?
I was told SIGN LANGUAGE sold 8,000 copies the first year in 1992..
then Carol Publishing went belly up and I never saw any royalties
(I had gotten an advance). Ah those were the days!
However, these days I'm really bad at self-promotion... I just made the
lulu books and told you guys and mentioned them on facebook, etc.
In fact, I wasn't that good at it back then. Have done better with
calendars. I don't know what I'd do if I did another one.
Marnie, You might as well offer a book for sale even if you meant it
just for gifts - certainly, if I were to do another book I'd address it
that way.
I kinda did the lulu books hoping to show them to a "real" publisher
and turn them over for them to deal with for a fee and royalties but
haven't followed through.
I like the design part of the process and selection, but I hate
all the software and sizing and shit.
If you think it would be fun, do it
ann
Thanks, Marnie aka Doe (Not thinking I'd sell it, myself, just curious.
BTW, PDML annual doesn't count, as that's everyone or everyone CAN be
included.)
