It was great fun working with Christine on her PDML and the North project. Initially I was quite happy using the Blurb Booksmart software, but now there's a whole lot more flexibility with LR4.
I've also used MyPublisher through Costco. Cheap and cheerful, but the print quality is variable from good to just about acceptable in my experience. Good luck and have fun!
