Thanks, Bruce. I'll take a look at the wireless triggers. I have a hotshoe to PC cord adapter, but no PC cord to hotshot mate for it. And I have some old flashes that will take a PC cord, but I couldn't find my old Safe-Synch surge protector... It just didn't come together. The handkerchief worked, though!

Gorgeous, Mark.

If you controlled the flash through cheap wireless triggers that don't
support P-TTL the camera should see that there's no response from the
flash and assume manual. The flash will also happily go into manual
because it's not getting TTL override signals from the camera. I can
recommend the Cowboy Studios ones. $20 for a Tx/Rx pair.

A simple trigger-only extension cable should work as well. But
wireless is handier, I find.

It snowed a little today (got damn cold too) and I tried a few snow crystal
shots with the Q. Details and some sample shots are here:

Had some odd flare (?) or something with my standard reverse mounted 50mm
setup. Better luck with with a regular mounted 50mm macro. I had tested the
AF360 flash with a Q mount lens and it worked like a charm - even though it
was bigger than the rest of the camera setup by a fair margin. With the K
mount adapter the flash seems a bit wonky, at least per my expectations. It
stays in P-TTTL mode and I can't get it to manual mode. It will only do
P-TTl or SB. I thought P-TTL would only work if the camera was in
communication with the lens's chip. While flahs compensation worked (in that
it changed the intensity of the flash) I still had to resort to putting a
hanky on the flash to control the intensity of the light and keep everything
form being blown out.

I was in "relearning" mode since it has been 2 years since I have had a good
session shooting snow crystals (last season was a bust), but things went
smoothly.

I have high hopes for this setup still. As ISO 160 the noise is pretty much
nill and the focus peaking plus the 4x MF focus assist make it much easier
to focus. Working at 1 to 2x is still much easier that 4 to 8 x. The snow
today was not very good in terms of its form, but I think the Q will be
great for this and other extreme macro stuff. I might wind up getting the
pricey Pentax K to Q converter with the built in leaf shutter, as the sync
speed of 1/13th did not help much.
