Christine, I think the power/battery management system has been wonky since grips were 1st sold. For that matter, even before grips were sold, power was a camera problem. (The *ist D went from 3/3 on the battery to fully dead in nanoseconds.) It's always the first place I look when I encounter a problem. Set the camera for internal battery first and don't worry. It's only a problem if there is now way to work around it. Regards, Bob S.
