Hi Ann! An ultra-fine Sharpie would be perfect for me except that I
would prefer not to mark with such a high contrast black. But all the
non-smearing inks I've tried so far seem to be black, so that's my
fall-back plan.

I visited my art supply pusher this morning and picked up three more
pens to try. The Copic Ciao is a nifty thing but has a chisel tip that
I'd have to practice with to get the fine line I want. Two Staedtlers
have the perfect tip and colour (silver: light and subtle; and grey:
medium dark). The jury is out on whether they have ink that will stick
to this impossible paper surface. I wrote samples and will try the
smear test later on.

Thanks for all the great suggestions everyone!
