When I saw the subject it reminded me of this...

"I got a camera for my wife yesterday."

"Really? How much did you have to give to boot?"

I hope you have better luck with encouraging the transition than I have. I got a decent P&S for Marcia and she still prefers to use the iPhone. I think it's more a matter of convenience and the ability to send off pix to friends/family immediately than being that concerned with quality.

I couldn't resist ordering one for my wife. It will be interesting to
see if she likes it and if she uses it. She's *not* a photographer and
never has been. She's an iPhone snapper/videographer, but I hope to
get her interested in what she can do with a 'real' camera. I plan on
starting her out with the 16-45mm that I'm getting from Tom C and also
giving her a Pentax F 35-70mm for when she wants a bit more reach or
close focusing.

I hope that once she sees the quality of photos and videos she can
produce with it that she'll have a lot of fun capturing the grandchild
and who knows what else. Maybe I'll create a monster.

If nothing else, we can share lenses and perhaps it will provide me
some cover. "But honey, I bought that new lens for YOU."
