This can be a result of in-camera processing.  Pro and pro-sumer
digitals usually give quite a bit of control over that.
Allowing us to not use in-camera processing.  It also could be
the result of certain picture editing software.  Do you know for
sure that this wasn't  the result of post-camera processing?

I've never noticed a lack of texture detail in my own digital
images.
