The only experience I have with EVF's was a few years ago I had a Nikon
Coolpix 5700 - in general a good camera with several nice features - I used
it in my work as an expert witness and it did a very good job on the static
images that the job required.
A few times I used it to try to capture some wildlife and it was almost a
total failure - if the subject was moving the camera gave me the image a few
nano seconds after the shutter was actuated - not good for any kind of
action photography.

... um Fuji X-E1. See http://goo.gl/C1XjW - Scores on all the points
except for since it’s the only EVF I’ve ever used, I don’t know how it
compares to others. Compared to the view through the K-5 there’s a
little bit of lag on fast-moving targets, but the information on the
display is a little better-designed, and it’s got the magnifier to
help with manual focus. I feel no pain.
I’d be really interested in hearing impressions from others with more
experience of different options on these modern EVFs. -T

Starting sometime a single-digit number of years ago, it became
painfully clear to me that the number of times the limiting factor in
shot quality was the camera rather than its operator was declining to
very nearly zero. The only shortcoming of my K-5 is its size and
weight, as the time spent with the new X-E1 has made painfully clear.
