I agree, and I've made literally thousands of prints, both optical and digital.
I love printing. I have boxes full of prints, stacked everywhere in the house.
I recently began discarding some that had o historic value in terms of my
development or life and were simply not very good.

I've found the equipment to be far less important than the motivation, vision
and process. Perhaps I'm merely a plodder, and If I were more artful I might
require other cameras. But I find the K-5 and DA* lenses capable of doing
anything I want. Full frame would be nice, but I can only print up to 13 x 19
at present, and the K-5 can achieve more resolution than is necessary to
produce excellent prints at that size on the Epson 2880. And my publishing
clients don't want more resolution than I can deliver now, so FF would be
merely a new toy. Now that I'm self-employed I have to be careful about
spending on toys.

I guess I should be embarrassed to admit that I don't know what an Epson RD-1
might be, but somehow I'm not. And if someone would give me one, I'm sure I
could have fun with it, but I would never buy one. I've been shooting with SLRs
for almost 50 years, and I can't imagine trying to work with something else.
(Although I did shoot a pic for the Times with my phone the other day when I
was posing as a consumer at a car dealership. Turned out pretty nice.)
