he is using firefox, I am using Chrome. This started with him a couple of weeks
ago, and just today for me.

in Chrome, try File > New Icognito Window; this will disable all extensions for
that window only; if that window doesn't have the problem, an extension is
probably to blame; the same extension for Firefox may or may not be your
friend's problem
also could be something inserted by a proxy
