Just for safety's sake, before you start: - make sure you have a-good backup - use the Disk Utility to Repair Permissions if you haven't done that recently
While in the process, have any printers turned on so that they will be detected and proper drivers installed. Then when you've finished the upgrade, re-run the Permissions repair.
