I have in my 2011 iMac OSX 10.6.8 which is what i assume to be Snow
Leopard. If, and i say if i decided to upgrade to mountain lion 10.8
and it seems i can, do i have to worry about file loss or corruptions
or anything like that.

2011 iMac will run 10.8 fine

you will lose the ability to run PowerPC-only apps; System Profiler can tell you which apps are in that category so you can decide if that is a problem

my upgrades have generally been smooth but there are always risks; before upgrading make sure you have good backups; the best backup is more than one backup, at least one of which can be used to do a full restore; i personally use Time Machine plus a clone made with Carbon Copy Cloner
