I wish I understood this stuff. I just took a look at Google+ again & it

You follow who you wish to, but they give you a list of what they consider interesting people. If you don't find them interesting, don't put them in your circles. Very simple. It sometimes takes a while to figure out who you want to keep around, so people come and go.

It is asymmetrical; I have ~7500 who have added me to circles, but I only have ~850 circled, most of whom I don't check every day. Of those who have me circled, only a small number keep up with me on a daily basis.

So, I added everyone whose name I recognized from PDML to my "circle of
friends" (???), but why earth do I have some guy I never heard of
"thanking GOD for restoring peace" to Arianna Huffington's marriage?

You can name your circles whatever you want. It's private, so you can have an "idiots" circle if you like. I don't have one like that, but I do have a "hashtaggers" circle, for those who hashtag everything to death but otherwise do interesting work. I also have a "Check Obsessively" circle, with a small population of people whose work/aesthetic is interesting to me and I want to see everything post as soon as I can.

I have nothing to do with the HuffPo, believing it to be a modern sweatshop for actual content creators. The good thing about G+ is I don't have to circle anyone I don't want to. Again, it's up to me what I see in my stream.

I'm heavy on photography, obviously, but I also have a tech circle and a writing circle, and specific things are only posted to those circles.

I know it seems very complicated, but once you get it set up it's really a breeze. The vast majority of the posts I make are shared publicly, which means anyone can see them. It's only when I have something for a small group of people that I narrow the target field.

If you have more questions, hit me up. I'm sure Tim Bray would also help. Dag is there, Bob Sullivan, and a few others, but less active.

I read some stuff at the Huffington Post, but why is she on my Google
Plus page? And what happened to all the stuff from Scott Kelby that used
to be there?

The stream is active. You can't expect it all to stay where you left it. What I do to "bookmark" things is this: I created a circled called "Save" that only has me in it. Things I want to come back to later get shared with that circle. That's it.

Hope this helps.
