Very interesting, Dan. In the early days of Phalaborwa a lot of game used to
find its way into the perimeter gardens. The Impala, in particular, were
great devourers of garden shrubs & vegetables. There were also a fair number
of Hyaenas, Jackals and Baboons after the contents of rubbish bins. From
time to time we have had Lions, Elephants, Hippos, Buffaloes, Warthogs &
other species of Antelope too. Sadly, no more, with the proliferation of
garden walls, palisades & fences for security reasons. Mind you, we still
hear the Lions roaring at night, the sound carrying up to 10km.

We enjoy seeing the fawns every year in and around our yard. This one
was on my neighbor's lawn. The deer wreak havoc on our shrubs,
flowers and trees. My wife and I were out of town for four days, and
the dog was in the kennel, so the deer were emboldened. The came
right up on my rear deck, and ate the flowers in the planters on the
deck railings.
