Bruce Cockburn is something of a Canadian icon who made a very conscious decision to not go down to the US for the big bucks. Very few of you south of the border will have likely heard of him.
First solo albums he was a granola-crunching hippy folkie: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9V_DK3WKAB0&feature=youtube_gdata_player That song was from 1971, first album 1968, so he's been around a while. Then he got into folk-jazz then punk/new wave synth crap, now he's mellowed out a bit and dabbles a bit in everything. Still recording/performing, I bet he's put out at least thirty albums/cds in his long career. Excellent guitarist, especially acoustic as you can hear above. Very leftie, very mystical Christian (comes out in some of his earlier music), into liberation theology, guns, smokes like a chimney, rumoured to have had an affair with punk/folkie Ani Di Franco (who everyone thought was lesbian until then); he's a man of contradictions. I interviewed him when I was in student radio at university during his acoustic folk/jazz days. Very nice man. Hell of a musician. I've loved him since '68. Poke around utube and listen to stuff from all his "eras". He's very Canadian. I was just never crazy about the synth-heavy pop of the 80's. But, then, I was a sworn metalhead in the 80's. Much has changed since then. -- Walt On 6/15/2013 10:59 AM, Bruce Walker wrote: > Be sure to check out The Barenaked Ladies' acoustic cover of that tune too: > > http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k_oOc3Zj0KU > > > On Sat, Jun 15, 2013 at 11:54 AM, Walt <[email protected]> wrote: >> Great lines.
