I woke up today with an itch to take some photos and decided, what the
hell -- I'll see if I can find someone to pose for me. So, I updated my
Facebook status to see if anyone might be interested. Shortly
thereafter, I got a response from a friend of mine who's been telling me
for quite a while that she wants me to photograph her daughter. She was
ready to get it underway within two hours, but I told her I had to make
some arrangements with a friend of mine to see if I could use his place
to take some shots and that we ought to shoot for the early afternoon,
just to give him a little bit of notice. I called, he agreed, and we all
went out there and started shooting. This is the product after my
initial run-through of the more easily workable shots:

These three have a particularly unflattering light to them. Makes the
skin look very old.

This one needs to have that unfinished electrical work cloned out. So do
a couple of others, but this one is the most obvious.

It also looks like Auto white balance. Auto white balance sucks.

Thanks, John.

I'll cull those from the set once Alisa's mother has a chance to pick the ones she likes best. I'll probably end up keeping about a dozen shot in the set when it's all said and done.

As for the white balance issue, I wasn't sure what happened there. I set the camera WB to cloudy, but something went awry. There were some shots that I pulled out of complete underexposure when the flash stopped working all of a sudden (I suspect the batteries were getting low) until I turned it off, shut off the camera and pulled it off the hot shoe for a few seconds. It started working again right after I did that, so I didn't swap them out.

As for the electrical work on the walls, I thought it added to the "unfinished" look of the room in general, so I left it in. I guess maybe it is a little distracting, though.
