Thanks, Bruce.

I wish I'd had the time to run to town and get a softbox and stand before the shoot. I was going to do that today, but the model's mother informed me that her friend wanted pictures taken of her daughter and that she had 4 other people who told her that they were interested in photos once I get the gear (softboxes, stands, etc.) I need. So. while they could have been better, I can at least say I did myself some good in a purely commercial sense -- which ain't bad, I reckon. Though, I suspect it'll be a little while before I hand in my notice at the bar, but it doesn't seem like an absurd proposition anymore -- unlike, say, a week ago. :)

Thanks for all the input and advice you've given me. I really did think I would hate working with flash, but I've taken a shine to it.

And for previous sentence, I'm now prepared to accept my punishment.

P/S: The last one, too.

Some really good shots in this collection. My faves include IGP2621,
2777, 2804, 2806 & 2862. I also like 2778 & 2790. 2745 is good but
needs hotspots reduced.

These shots speak highly of your ability to relate and interact with
your subject. It looks like you were all having fun and getting
creative and you got lots of good looks and expressions because of it.

But: too much on-axis hard flash, dude. :-) Lots of unsightly
hotspots because of that, and it's unflattering to the girl's
complexion and face shape. Eg 2657 where her skin appears greasy, and
I'm sure it's not.

After you've safely got that flash on a stand, off-axis and diffused
some, before long you'll be handing in your notice at the bar. :-)

-- I'll see if I can find someone to pose for me. So, I updated my Facebook
status to see if anyone might be interested. Shortly thereafter, I got a
response from a friend of mine who's been telling me for quite a while that
she wants me to photograph her daughter. She was ready to get it underway
within two hours, but I told her I had to make some arrangements with a
friend of mine to see if I could use his place to take some shots and that
we ought to shoot for the early afternoon, just to give him a little bit of
notice. I called, he agreed, and we all went out there and started shooting.
This is the product after my initial run-through of the more easily workable
shots:

http://www.flickriver.com/photos/walt_gilbert/sets/72157634187251295/

All shot with the K-5 and F50/1.7 with my recently purchased flash unit
attached. I didn't bother with any wireless stuff as I wanted to play it
safe and didn't want any big surprises. Also, I didn't realize until I got
home that I'd had the diffuser in my pocket the whole time. So, some of the
shots came out a tad harsh, but overall, I have to say I'm pretty pleased
with what I was able to do. All shots were done hand-held with manual flash.

Comments appreciated.

Thanks!
