This is a Photoshop-level repair, Walt. Lr's tools are too simpleminded for this kind of thing, imho.
In his retouching book, Scott Kelby describes a terrific method for evening out skin tones of all kinds, tan lines, sunburns, etc., that doesn't involve cloning or other skin detail destruction methods. Basically you lasso the largest problem region, feather the selection and create a curves adjustment layer with the selection as the layer mask. Then you carefully adjust the curve from a single point near the middle and tug up or down until the skin tone closely matches the surrounding area. You can brush soft white onto the layer mask to include other mis-toned areas, or simply create more adjustment layers. I highly recommend Professional Portrait Retouching Techniques, Scott Kelby, New Riders. Very practical, not overly advanced, includes many alternate methods for each subject.
