Thanks, Bruce.
I'm not quite at the "being able to afford Photoshop" point, though I
did download CS2 when Adobe opened up their older version servers a
while back. I really haven't touched it since, as I'm still learning
almost everything about LR4.
If I start making enough money to get set up like a real-live
photographer someday, I'll be sure to learn how to do the highly
technical stuff like Photoshop. But, honestly, my hands are full just
learning the ins-and-outs of Lightroom and how to use a flash unit. ;)

This is a Photoshop-level repair, Walt. Lr's tools are too
simpleminded for this kind of thing, imho.
In his retouching book, Scott Kelby describes a terrific method for
evening out skin tones of all kinds, tan lines, sunburns, etc., that
doesn't involve cloning or other skin detail destruction methods.
Basically you lasso the largest problem region, feather the selection
and create a curves adjustment layer with the selection as the layer
mask. Then you carefully adjust the curve from a single point near the
middle and tug up or down until the skin tone closely matches the
surrounding area. You can brush soft white onto the layer mask to
include other mis-toned areas, or simply create more adjustment
layers.
I highly recommend Professional Portrait Retouching Techniques, Scott
Kelby, New Riders. Very practical, not overly advanced, includes many
alternate methods for each subject.

Hi all,
The young lady who posed for me today has spent a good amount of time in the
pool this spring and summer. This, of course, gives her skin a beautiful
golden tone -- except for the parts that were covered by her swimsuit when
she wears a strapless dress.
What's the best way to deal with that little issue in LR4?
