Larry, the Tamron Back Caps are pretty good at covering the Electronic
Contacts on the Lens. There was a Seller offering Lens Back Caps that
were Weather Proof for some $ 10 or so each. Try Googling. It does
cover the electronic contacts as well.
A friend of mine has the K-5 IIs with the 18-135 WR Lens. I have the
newer Ricoh K-5 with the 18-135 WR. We tried testing the AF speed of
both the cameras in daylight, tungsten, fluorescent and colored bulbs
- red, blue and green.
There was absolutely no difference in bright day light. However in
Tungsten the K-5 IIs was just a bit better in acquiring instant focus.
In Fluorescent light there was just a wee bit difference with the K-5
IIs doing better - but not dramatic.
The colored bulbs were all around 100 watts, hence medium to low in
brightness. In Green light both were just as good. But in Blue and Red
lights the K-5 IIs was again just a wee bit faster to acquire focus.
Note: a) the K-5 would also focus, just that the IIs acquired focus
quicker in the
blue and red bulbs.
b) we did the tests in the comfort of our home, so cannot
say these tests
were very technical.
Conclusion: The K-5 IIs definitely appears to acquire AF faster, with lesser
hunting in low light. But the question is, does it
justify the extra $$,
as no photos were lost because of the AF speed by
the K-5 over
the K-5 IIs.
Regards.
Bipin - from that far away enchanting land.
