In the middle of 1984, I had tossed most of everything I owned into a friend's
closet in Santa Cruz, CA, sold all the rest but what I could carry on a ten
year old BMW R75/5, and taken off to circumnavigate the United States. I
stopped in New York for a month and some, working odd jobs with friends to
raise money for the return trip, and on the way west I stopped in Washington DC
to visit a high school buddy who'd moved there to work for the CIA. We spent a
few days and nights together bumming around the capitol town.

I just found a few photos from that trip and scanned them recently. Here's one.

Ah, the years fly. I remember that trip as if it just ended yesterday.
