On less jocular note, few points at relatively random order:
1. Beside immediate emotional reaction - does anyone remember a brand
name Minolta? It seems that Sony is doing rather good these days.
2. As I said few times before - you can still use your favorite Pentax
lenses (albeit probably not the physically big ones, such long teles,
etc) on a plethora of cameras all the way from Samsung (which seems to
have improved their sensors since K-7) to Fuji via Sony NEX, Ricoh GXR,
m43, and may be others that I cannot recall at this very point.
Heck, you can even adapt them to Canon, including their FF bodies.
3. Although not as reliable as one would want them to be, especially if
one was a die hard perfectionist, Pentax gear that we have right now is
reasonably reliable. People living in USA or England seem to be covered
by a reasonably good service. People of other countries - I couldn't
tell. People is some other countries - less so, but that's not shocking
news that just came today, is it? So, I think that our gear still has
quite a few year to run. Again, it depends on your specific shooting
style and so on.
4. But I think that the sky is not falling. It is indeed getting darker
and if Pentax-Ricoh or just Ricoh or whatever is the name, does not make
any serious improvements in terms of their profits and market share from
photographic business, the sky will get darker still. But ultimately,
this is not anything new for us.
Just yesterday I was on a customer site together with the technician of
another company with which we have to integrate our systems. And it
turned out he is a serious hobbyist photographer (just returned from
photo-safari in Africa a month ago or so, according to him). And so it
went like this:
Him: My hobby is photography.
Me: Oh, mine too. I'm rather engaged into it, so to say.
Him: Oh! What do you shoot? Nikon or Canon?
Me: Neither /smiling/
Him: Oh dear...
So I think it is very much business as usual in the Pentax land. The
summer(*) has come and great many of us can get wonderful light and
excellent pictures. Regardless of gear - isn't it what makes us all happy?

(*) It is winter for Derby, but he is so good that it does not matter at
all :-).

How's that for a provocative subject line? :-)
No more Pentax, now just Ricoh in the company name:
