yesterday i responded to a craigslist ad ($1000 for K10D, grip, AF360 flash,
16-50/2.8, 50-135/2.8) and got a call back saying i would be the backup buyer
in case the first buyer didn't cover the full FedEx postage to Nigeria …
i was so surprised at what he said that i wondered if he were going to try to
scam *me*!
so i asked if he was really sure the transaction was proper and he replied he
was paid via PayPal; i asked if he had possibly gotten an email from PayPal
saying his funds would be released in two weeks and he said yes; i told him
that email not from PayPal, it was forged; his reply was the telephonic
equivalent of scratching his head
turns out the "payment" he thought he had received would have covered USPO
shipping, and if it had been enough for FedEx he would have sent it before he
even called me
long story short, i saved his bacon and got a sweet deal; 50-135 is fantastic
lens, but a bit of a workout for my shoulder; i will probably resell the rest
(not all Nigerians are scammers; i sold my K200d face to face to a man who was
going back to Nigeria for his father's funeral and wanted to document it)
