Some of these southern states are still run like NYC and Chicago were in the
1800's. And, I find the attitude is that if you work with your hands you are
not much better than a slave. Now if the way you make your living allows you
to sit behind a desk and wear a tie you are acceptable, but only white (and
any other color) trash whould be willing to get their hands dirty.

One of my trades is an electrician, when I came down here 10 years ago, I
took a job in retail because the wage for electrician was about the same. In
fact at the time the wages for electrician (and I suppose, the other trades)
was the lowest in the country (it probably still is). And to give you an
idea of the reletive value of skilled labor down here, a run of the mill two
bed-room apartment cost $700 to $1000 a month. Now, I freely admit that
there are more expensive places to live, but not, I think, where they pay
journeyman electricians less than $15 an hour.
